Principles of composition
Remember in Art 1 when you learned all about the Elements of Art (aka. the tools to make art) and Principles of Design (how to use the tools to make art)? How about Composition? In the visual arts, composition is the placement or arrangement of visual elements in a work of art, as distinct from the subject. It can also be thought of as the organization of the elements of art according to the principles of design.
In Photography, all that stuff is still relevant, but there are also new Principles of Composition that are particularly helpful in taking effective photographs. These make us aware of HOW to see and compose effective images when we look through the camera lens. It's about knowing what to include and what to exclude. Sketchbook Assignment: create a sketchbook spread that contains a visual example of each of the 8 principles - labeled, briefly summarized, and thoughtfully placed - within an interesting and titled 2 page spread.
