Word of the week Challenge
Every couple of weeks, you will be given a word that you will examine from a personal viewpoint AND be challenged to view through the lens of master photographers who have dealt with similar topics. Your goal is to create a photograph that puts a new and engaging spin on a universal concept - avoid predictable or cliche responses and dig deep to take a photograph that makes a statement or takes a stance, rather than merely illustrates. You're not taking a stock photo - you're creating Art.
Criteria Idea Generation - We will unpack each concept with a series of exercises meant to expand your knowledge and allow you to think outside the box - these exercises can be found in the column to the right.
Design/Organization - We have studied the principles of composition ad infinitum... your photos should show evidence of this. Go back and review if necessary. Personal Choice Making and Meaning - As part of our initial brainstorming, you will be asked to come up with a variety of personal solutions that are born of your experiences and preferences - please take photos that interest you conceptually. Craftsmanship - No blurry, unfocused, poorly lit, flash-lit, or pixelated uploads please. Studio Skills & Practice - There should be evidence that you're using the tools and knowledge from class - both about cameras and Photoshop - to turn in your best solution to each particular problem. Reflection/Responding - A large part of the Word of the Week challenge is that ALL photo students are struggling with the same concept. We will come together and share all entries to learn from one another and "vote" on the best overall photos. Participation is essential. |
